First this is a proprietary device, but not as well established as Aviom's digital snake, or even Yamaha's own system. I guess it depends on what you plan to use it for.
If it is about using Cat 5/6 cable for inputing and outputing aes audio to the Yamaha, then Aviom is perfect for that.
If it is about recording direct to DAW software in a computer then the AES-EBU 16 x 16 card is more than adequate.
What are you thinking of using for?

Actually, it's not for the Aviom system. That's a different card. This is for the Dante system that will act as 16 channel i/o between the O1V96 and a PC/Mac via ethernet.
The Aviom card is a whole different deal.

Phil, So are you contemplating an adjunct to recording to the Deva, as a backup/archival system to a mac or pc? Or as a network link to your ProTools playback setup?

More than anything, just looking ahead. I think the limitation of 8 AES with the DEVA is going to become an issue at some point for me, though not at this time. I know the 8 analog are avail, but now we're talking a loom of cables again, time delay, processor hog, etc. The use of computer based recording platforms such as Metacorder and Boomcorder become much more interesting (at least to me) when the interface is as elegant as a network cable. I think Tom Stasinis was considering this for his rig, so I was hoping to hear some thoughts.
I love my DEVA (both of them) but it never hurts to think ahead.

I have been a Boom Recorder user since 2004 and love it.
Will you use the cat 5 port on your Mac to input the audio, or do you need a Dante device at the computer end?
What will you use to get BR to record at 48.048K?
Of course you could always get a Deva 16. As much as I have great success with BR as a backup, I am always leery of the computer possibly failing. I have gone through two Mac Mini's and several logic board failures over the last six years. Where as my two Deva's have been flawless.

Hello Khalid and welcome to the users group. May I ask what you are using the Dante card to interface with? Thanks so much...
